Senior UX Designer - Full time
It was truly a delight to work for Elephant in NYC, as a Senior UX and Interaction Designer. With the clock ticking, our goal for the NBC Peacock project was to build a brand-new streaming platform, and have it ready in time for the Tokyo Olympics.
In the early days at Elephant, our team was compact yet dynamic; consisting of a few UX and UI designers. Our initial challenge was to thoroughly understand and work with an existing platform used in the English market called Sky. This task was fundamental, since our partnership with NBC meant building our new streaming service on the foundation of Sky's platform. Balancing innovation and creativity, with the constraints of an existing system, set the stage for a truly unique design journey.
While the UI team was busy with the main brand design principles, my job on the UX side was all about setting up grids and base interaction rules. This laid the groundwork for how the app would function and interact with users. I was further involved into a deep dive in customizing the app’s navigation, making sure it was smooth and intuitive across various platforms, from TVs with remotes to mobile devices like iPads and iPhones.
Later on, I expanded my focus to the live channels, playlist interactions, and the search functionality, ensuring that every aspect of the user experience was was instinctive and cohesive.
To bring our designs to life, I created prototypes using Principle for Mac, which allowed us to put our ideas in the hands of real people. This user testing was vital to ensure that all the features, pages, and interactions resonated with our audiences. Nevertheless, these features had to be more than just good looking – they needed to be fun, easy, and meaningful for our users to enjoy.
One of the best things about this project was the people. Every member of the team at Elephants was extremely talented and brought their A-game. I learned a great deal from my Creative Director, Pablo and my Manager Maria. He was a wizard at pulling together a big vision for a huge project and She knew how to get the best out of all of us.
Working on this project wasn't just another design job. It was an opportunity to be part of something game changing in the streaming world. It pushed me to think outside the box, grow as a designer, and leave with lessons I can still apply to my work today.
